Here in North America (U.S.) we celebrate The Fourth of July or Independence Day. As many of you know who live here and/or who read and watch about us in other countries….we here in the U.S. have experienced some years of disillusionment regarding our country. But the hope is in the word disillusion. Dis. Illusion. According to Dictionary.com the definition of disillusion is “to free from or deprive of illusion, belief, idealism.” One of the definitions of illusion is “something that deceives by producing a false or misleading impression of reality.”
Perhaps part of our collective disenchantment of our country isn’t that it is falling to pieces around us but that the veils of our illusions are being lifted. Remember when you learned what and who Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy (insert your country’s favorite fable character) really was? There was a time of feeling let down and wondering what everything in your world was really all about. Perhaps because there are many of us who have made an effort to open up our minds and see the world as it really is instead of as we wish it to be (which could also be the same thing) we are creating new eyes and ears to see and hear to create new thoughts and new beliefs. We are in the process of unfolding our wet wings.
That’s a much more hopeful way of viewing what is going on now days because it gives us the opportunity for action as well as the choice to pull another veil back over our eyes and just putter along with our lives or to decide to be as mindful as we can be about our thoughts and actions. Some of the great Prophets and Masters of our world have told us to be aware of the thoughts we carry around in our heads because thoughts do become things.
Today, I believe that what I love about my country is really that I love groups and areas of humanity where people are able to look outside of themselves to see the bigger impact they have on the world. Then countries just become land masses with water that connects them to each other into one big planet.
