Favorite Dragon quote, “Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.” ~ Dilbert by Scott Adams

My husband, David, and me and our friends Julie and Robert just got back from seeing the movie, “How to Train Your Dragon” http://tiny.cc/pn52d. It was definitely a two paws up because I got up a couple of times to get away from the drama of it (can’t handle anything happening to animals….even in a cartoon) and without giving too much away…it does end well.

As I’m typing this blog right now, the infamous Rosie-Queen-Bee 17 year old cat is up on my desk purring away and both dogs are curled around our chairs panting and hanging out. There’s just about nothing quite as soothing to me as a contended beast.

Thank God I’ve always seemed to have known the incredible peace and love that comes from connecting with critters. I’ve had many special beings come into my life over the years and for that I am truly grateful. I’m also glad that I’ve been able to recognize the communication taking place from my animals and me in the process. A dear old friend of mine, Leta Worthington, http://tiny.cc/r6v8a has been communicating with all kinds of animals for at least a couple of decades now. She teaches various kinds of animal communication classes so that you can learn as well.

You may be wondering what animals and business have in common. Well, there’s a heckuva lot. One thing I was reminded of in the early 90’s is that we humans, as much as we’d like to ignore the fact, are animals of a sort too. I met a woman after reading an article in the Statesman who was half African American and half Navajo and her main service in life was rescuing hybrid wolves and rehabilitating them.

My friend took on this work after she made the mistake of thinking she understood what a hybrid wolf was because she assumed they’d be very similar to the German Shepherds she raised for years. Within a very short period of time she realized that if someone like herself who cared for animals as much as she did could make the mistake of not understanding that a half dog/half wolf would always be in a wrestling match with itself, then surely others would make the same mistake as well. And she was so right. She would get calls from all over the country on an almost weekly, if not daily, basis with some law enforcement officer asking her why they shouldn’t just go ahead and put down the animal. By the time she pulled up her stakes in Austin and moved to Chaco Canyon with her wolves, she had about 20 wolves to take with her.

I’ll never forget the first time I met my friend and her wolves. It was at night and as I drove down her driveway I remember how the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. I didn’t see the wolves, I didn’t hear the wolves (who were in pens by the way), I didn’t smell the wolves, but every corpuscle in my body could feel them. I learned a lot from those guys over the course of a summer. My friend had one “mega” wolf as she called him who weighed over 200 pounds. He was a big mammer jammer. The first time he let me know who was boss was in broad daylight as my friend walked me across the yard to meet one of her female wolves. All I remember was as we walked across the lawn, this mega wolf in his pen about 50 feet away bristled and poofed up all his hair and stood really still looking at me. At least I had enough sense not to look at him, but I knew I was being addressed by him. Seems this wolf knew before I did that I would send out my energy about 50 feet around me in all directions to sense what was out there. He was irritated with me for crossing his boundary. I never knew that I could violate a boundary with my energy. I mean my mom used to tell me that I did that, but you know….that was my mom!!! This was a 200 pound wolf!

Ever since then I’ve been more careful about how I use my energy and more respectful of boundaries.

This kind of energy bopping is something we can do every day in a business setting. Just like the wolves have a sophisticated system of reading eye, head, and body movement not to mention markings on the face, we humans do the same thing with each other. In fact, we take in so much non-verbal communication from each other within a few seconds/minutes of meeting each other that it just isn’t funny.

So…..go see the “Train Your Dragon” movie and watch how the kid works with the dragons and then if you have animals, observe how they communicate with you…because they do. If you don’t have animals, then just pay attention to the humans who come to the next meeting your at and how they interact with you.

Who knows, there may be a dragon incognito amongst them!
