Have you ever had a song get stuck in your head? Are you glad it did? Did you have to hear it in “real life” before it would leave the recesses of your brain?

For the past two nights…well more accurately the past two days in the wee early morning hours my brain has awakened with this The Kings of Leon song, “Somebody” ( playing in my head.

Only my brain just remembers just one word, “Somebody” and then a bunch of garbled mournful words sung like someone who sounds Cher–if she was a –who just had their wisdom teeth pulled (sorry KOL fans…but it does!). So there I am too tired to pull myself out of bed and just awake enough that my cute little brain keeps singing SOMEBODY over and over again with every new position I toss my body into trying to convince myself to go back to sleep.

I think this is one little reminder to me that there is a lot going on right now in my life and in those lives of friends and family around me so it’s okay to s l o w d o w n and breathe every now and again. “Focus on your breath” as my yoga teacher, Murti, used to say to us (usually when we were in the midst of holding an extremely painful Virabhadrasana II (Warrior II) pose for an extended period of time.

Wednesdays are days that I need to be especially watchful about getting spread too thin because I have lots to organize before I take off for San Marcos for class and then head back later that evening. On the way home I channel surf and pop into 94.7 to listen to “Your Time With Kim Iverson” and so I know that is where my brain picked up the “SOMEBODY” song because she always plays it between her phone calls. Next Wednesday perhaps I’ll turn off the radio and just drive and think about what I learned in school….or turn on the Clark Howard show for more tips on finances….

If you’re feeling especially squished for time lately take a tip from me and find a few minutes in your day to just sit and breathe and look out at the leaves in the trees or people walking by your office. If I can save just one SOMEBODY from having an especially tenacious song hanging on to those memory bands in their head then it will have been worth it!
