After ten years, Richard Bandler is launching two new books of which one is, “Get the Life You Want”. I read the book from cover-to-cover so that I could be an informed guest host but also because I am fascinated with the process of NLP. Neuro-Linguistic Programming is defined as “an attitude, methodology, and technology that teaches people how to improve the quality of their lives. It is an educational tool that teaches people how to communicate more effectively with themselves and with others. It is designed to help people have personal freedom in the way they think, feel and behave”.
In other words, it is a tool that we can use to help us to use our brains instead of our brains using us.
In this book, Richard tells us that, “just the process of going through the simple experiments in this book will enable you to find basic yet immensely powerful tools that will make changes in your own unconscious habits so that you can change your life. One of these tools we refer to as the model of submodalities”. Richard continues in the next chapter explaining submodalities. As a Coach, I found Richard’s discussion about feelings quite refreshing. He shares that, “when people say they’re frustrated, it’s actually a verb”. That people are actually in the process of being frustrated which is an activity. This enables us to find out so much more about our feelings of being frustrated when we think of it as being an activity.
He continues unveiling each step in the process of feelings and feeling our feelings and then learning the tools so that we can use our minds to enhance or minimize those feelings. As a novice explorer of NLP, I know how important it is for us to recognize our beliefs and thoughts so that we can be at choice with how they will impact our lives. All I know about this particular book, “Get The Life You Want” is that before I was even half way through, I was dreaming of submodalities and interpreting what I had learned thus far into very creative dreams!

Could you recommend any specific resources, books, or other blogs on this specific NLP topic?
I would definitely recommend that you google “Richard Bandler” so that you can find more books and also schools/training centers around the world that offer NLP training and books. Back in the beginning, Richard had a co-creator John Grinder who you may also want to google for more information on NLP. Richard’s website is http://www.richardbandler.com
