Met a producer today to run some ideas by and try to grasp some more tendrils of what I don’t know that I don’t know in terms of producing a show and again we were turned into the direction of going digital first instead of television. The cost is definitely a factor and the time and effort involved to build a following while we legitimize and brand ourselves. Still, it’s kind of scary how the way business has been done for years and years in the media is changing. And it is changing very fast.

In the last couple of weeks I’ve had the opportunity to speak with professional photographers and producers and it just blows my hair back to learn how much the film industry is changing due to the technology and the web. The salaries many of these guys used to pull in has been reduced by unbelievable amounts because of what is available to be worked with today.

And yet, even with all of the changes that are happening in many of the industries I’m particularly interested in, such as music and film, there still remains the underlying fundamental rules of human interaction that I want to hone and keep in the forefront of my mind in every business (and personal) decision I make. I want to help other people be the best that they can be and along the way become the best that I can be so that together we can help others.

I was encouraged to see some great looking companies when I Googled “net impact” to find out what info was out there about how the net is impacting business. There are more than a couple of non-profits with the intention of creating a good impact through net business. I feel some resistance about how the media is being tweaked to byte size pieces to keep up with the fast moving pace of the consumer though because I would hope that at some point that it would be possible to have the art make an impact on the business instead of the other way around. I mean with all the creative DNA running around on the planet these days, I would hope that a new way of doing business creatively and with consciousness could mix into this soup of business change somehow.

Who is running this show that we’re all running after so fast now anyway? Isn’t it just us finding different ways to experience our lives? It bugs me when I hear many people that I know being impacted by this huge internet freight train that is moving very fast with seemingly no chief at the helm. In very fast bytes of conversation people are encouraging each other to create very fast bytes of information about who their business is and what they do. Skimming…the…surface…to…another….surface…….to….get….to….where?

There’s a happy medium in here someplace and I’m sure not going to come up with a solution for it all by myself but I’m confident that there is not only one but many solutions towards our being able to not only change with the tide but grow with the tide so that we can live the real kind of life that we really, truly, want to live.

With all the skimming being done these days surfing for this song or that podcast, I’m thinking that there is some very deep levels underneath all of this for us to do some really good deep diving to get down to it. I’ve been training for this opportunity my whole life, how about you?!?
