Within the first fifteen minutes of waking up today I had to retrieve our trusty toilet plunger to..well..you know do that thing that we do with our trusty toilet plungers. It’s a times like this that I say a quick prayer of gratitude for all of the moms and dads out there in the world because I know that an event like this is but a mere raindrop on your window of life.

The rest of the morning scooted along until I tried to call into my MasterMind group conference call and had a heck of a time getting “in” to the call. When I finally did get in, we were able to catch up for about a minute or so and the phone call immediately dropped and then I could not get in again no matter if I used my cell phone or land line….it just wasn’t to be.

Neither one of these occurrences are major in themselves (or even when put together) but they do have a special little edge to them as they both happened before 9:30 this morning. In the past, I must admit to you that at some level of my unconsciousness they would have registered and I would have been plunged into a dark and foul mood with nothing but doom and gloom to look forward to on my horizon. No wonder I used to find whatever outside influence I could grab to get myself out of my mood!!

But, today is different. I’m grateful for all of you out there, I have an underlying sense of peace and calm and I’m looking forward to seeing what the day will bring (no more stopped up toilets I hope!). For me, I think one of the tools that has helped me to have this kind of an outlook is to be as conscious as I can of what my thoughts are and where they are heading so that I can re-direct them if they are going towards the dark worm hole in the basement of my mind. Yes, this is possible to do but it does take concentration and active awareness that our mind is here to serve us not the other way around. I liken it to being in a kind of obedience school for our mind.

You may have heard this before but I’m going to say it again….it is always okay to re-set your day. From any minute that you choose to do so. Abraham Lincoln said a long time ago that “we can be as happy as we make up our minds to be”….which really made an impression on me since Mr. Lincoln suffered from great bouts of depression and he didn’t have the chemical relief available that we do today.

No matter what else you do today, take good care of yourself and remember that it is always okay to re-set your day.
