Be the Change That You Want to See …

In my faith it is encouraged for us to not publicly align with any political party. Our faith (Bahá’í) is about unity and so our focus is encouraged to be wide and deep so that we can include everyone.  I understand this reasoning and respect it immensely.  AND I still want to say that I feel very hopeful and happy after last night’s election

I noticed this morning that I felt lighter when I navigated through my two circling cats and walked up our driveway to get the paper. The Earth seems to be shouting her opinion as well because although it is sunny this morning, it is extremely windy. It’s as if the winds are ushering in a change.

No matter what our political opinions may be, it is important to remember why those of us who live in the United States…..do.  My memory had become progressively hazier over the last eight years but as I listened to one candidate’s very eloquent concession speech and gazed over the thousands and thousands of people gathered to hear the acceptance speech for the other, I was moved. I felt unified.  I felt hopeful.

One of my spiritual lessons says, “That the problem in front of us is never as great as the power behind us”.  As individuals we can make an incredible difference by our thoughts and actions in our own life which sends out a rippling effect that touches many. As a unified group, our ability to heal, inspire, change and cure is immeasurable.

I hope that each of us will take this time to embrace the future and believe in the possibility of success and miracles for everyone.  As Mahatma Gandhi said, “let the change begin with me”.
